When she stands, she’s like a white peony. When she sits, she’s like a tree peony. When she walks, she’s like a lily flower. And when you look her in the eyes, she’s like the Great King of Terror.
Despite having the qualities to be a peerless bishoujo, because of the look of her eyes and that atmosphere of hers, she’s feared by others; such a girl is forcefully sent to another world.
Being told that she would be granted a wish as a special favour, the girl made a wish────

“Make my eyes and atmosphere normal please.”

This is a story recounting the lifestyle in a parallel world of a girl who would be perfect (probably) if just her one weakpoint was overcome.

A fantasy comedy with magic, dungeons, and a hero and demon king(candidate) who she gets tangled up with.
She’s cursed though.

The Vampire Princess Dreams a Rose Coloured Dream (TS)

I-, who was supposed to have died in an accident, awaken as my “Eternal Horizon Online”’s vampire princess character. It turns out that I, along with my entire pet, assets, and territory within the game had been transferred into a different word that was similar to the game. When fighting around, to be honest, I was in a higher post than my followers who are stronger than me, I also have no choice but to reign as the ‘me’ from the game. Furthermore the demons and beast of this world, and even demi-human start to follow me too, and before I knew it I had established a huge empire. Moreover, trouble from the appearance of mysterious enemies are just endless…
Notes: Like Overlord but some actual overlording instead of being a sissy and hiding as an adventurer for 2 arcs. Translator is a little fobby, but hopefully some editor recruits will fix this.

The Reincarnated Princess Strikes Down Flags Again Today.(Tensei Oujo wa Kyou mo Flag o Tatakioru.; Tensei Oujo)

__I was reborn as a princess in the world of an otome game with memories of my previous life.
__Wait, what? I’m the Heroine’s love rival? You’re kidding! I have no intention of falling in love with any of those pathetic guys, because the one I like is a support character, the Commander of the Royal Knights.
__Except the Heroine—after being reincarnated in this shitty game where the support characters are way better than the love interests—is threatening to bring down my own life with flags, and I am determined to strike them down.

__Dreaming of the day she can be united with the one she longs for, the reincarnated princess will push on again today.

I Reincarnated Into an Otome Game as a Villainess With Only Destruction Flags…
(Destruction Flag Otome; Monkey Ojou)

I recovered my past memories when I was hit on the head by a rock. I am Katarina Claes, the eight year old daughter of the duke. In a feverish nightmare, during which I became the prince’s fiancee, I have realized that this is the otome game from the previous life. Also, I’ve turned into the villainess that interfered with the romance of the capture targets… If the heroine got a happy end, I would be exiled, while if she got a bad end, I would be killed by the capture target… I have no happy end!? Why is it only bad!? Somehow I have to avoid the destruction end, and reach old age peacefully!!

Dragon Life

I used to be a human girl. I can’t recall my name. Because I’ve turned into a female dragon. What’s more, in a certain kingdom I am considered a sacred dragon. My diet consists of humans… Eh? Humans?
It seems that after eating a human, that human’s magical power is what sustains me. How G R O S S. By now I’ve gotten used to it and eat without batting an eyelid though. Eeh. I want to live, too.

I’m a type of dragon called an “Earth Dragon”, which for generations have formed contracts with humans in a certain kingdom, leading that kingdom to victory in war against another kingdom that they are on bad terms with.

I don’t care about that. I want to live in peace. Since I’ve come to an alternate reality, I want to live in tranqulity.

However, when living together with my fluffy rabbit friend, I got branded as a “man-eating dragon”. Growing tired of those sent to vanquish me, I entered human society, ending up serving in the castle, where tasty looking humans abounded.

When I felt down about my job, I was immediately informed that I had been selected for personal-reassignment. I’m to clean the 4th Knight Corps resting quarters. There I met a lineup of top-grade ingredient tasty looking humans.
– Somehow both horrific and incredibly cute

And in the bad ending, I get stabbed to death?
What a joke!”

The protagonist is determined to avoid the yanderes around her.

An Otome Game’s Burikko Villainess Turned into a Magic Otaku

The high school girl Manami who had fallen down the emergency stairs at school had, before she noticed, become a three year old in the world of an Otome Game. What’s more, that little girl was one of the rival characters that appeared in the game; the can’t-take-a-hint-burikko-type-rival daughter of a marquis family. What awaited her at the end was social obliteration.
Though she did get a bad feeling about this… Aimi decided not to worry!
It was a dream after all, so that had nothing to do with her. For now, she’s going to master magic! Hooray!

What Came to Mind During My Third Time in Another World was to For Now, Get Naked (TS)

After being tossed into another world, Ononogi Kazuto splendidly defeated the Demon King as the Hero. However, there was no sign of being able to return to his old world at all. The moment that he touched a gem that appeared at the Demon King’s throne, Kazuto was sent back to the first town, 《Azerleims》.

From here began the tale of this second time(NG+). He saved the imperial princess that he was unable to save in the second time, had a wedding with her, and after defeating the Demon King, met his happy end. Or at least that’s how it should have been. The True Demon King has suddenly appeared.

Although it was a tough battle together with his companions, Kazuto eventually defeated it. And from the mouth of the True Demon King appeared a gem. Although he had a bad feeling about it, Kaztuo reached his hand out towards it, and when he did, Kazuto was sent once again to the starting town, 《Azerleims》.

As you’d expect, by now Kazuto wasn’t really surprised, but the figure reflected in the mirror was female. Bewilderment. But at that point, Kazuto took one action.

“…Mn. For now, let’s get naked.”

I Will Live with Humility and Dependability as My Motto
(Kenkyo, Kenjitsu wo Mottoo ni Ikiteorimasu; KenkyoKenjitu)

It was something that happened while I was waiting for the day of the primary school entrance exam. I realised that I had become one of the characters of a shoujo manga that I loved reading in my old life, 『you are my dolce』.
The role I was assigned was a character who bullied the commoner protagonist and tried to get in the way of her love with a rich boy nicknamed Emperor; a typical villainess ojousama, Kisshouin Reika.
At the end of the story, Reika suffered the Emperor’s retribution and even her family fell into ruin. With the villain gone, the protagonist and the Emperor overcame their trials and became a couple. And they lived happily ever after.
Wait, that’s terrible for meee! The manga ended with just that, but I have to continue living my life after my family is ruined!
I’m fine with the protagonist having fun with her romance or love or whatever. I’ll erase my presence so that I don’t anger the Emperor.
Eh-? The story isn’t progressing well because there’s no villain, you say? But I’m busy saving up money and studying so that I can live well after the collapse.
Even if just a little, I want to avoid getting involved with the Emperor to avoid being ruined. If you two are a destined couple, then please just get together even without facing those trials.
In my previous life, I was a complete commoner. Right now I’m an ojousama from a rich family. I can’t forget the taste of junk food, so I’ll sneakily slip out of my house to buy potato chips.

Tilea’s Worries (TS)

With the progression of his Chuuni Disease, Shioda Tetsuya is shunned by his family, and dies in despair, a thirty three year old jobless virgin. He vowed that if he was born again, this time he would stay away from delusions and live life seriously. Fortunately, he reincarnated in another world as a girl named Tilea, and lived a happy life with her kind parents and adorable little sister, but…
Lately, she’d been troubled. Her beloved sister had begun talking about how she was actually one of the Six Demon Generals, serving directly under Demon King Zorg, a descendant of the Three Great Demons. The situation was looking bad. She had to do something before this Chuuni Disease got any worse!
This is a fantasy “misunderstanding story” about a protagonist who has not noticed in the slightest that she’s a “cheat”-like existence, and how in her efforts to heal her sister’s Chuuni Disease (except that she really is one of the Six Demon Generals), she somehow or other ended up setting out to defeat the Demon King.

  1. I’m just going to say I like this page, not because I read these stories, but due to the sheer novelty of the way you introduced these topics to your blog. Well done, good fellow, my hat is off to you, even as I lmfao (no idea how to make that part sound gentlemanly -.-)

  2. That black knight thing, didn’t realise the hero is an eroge protagonist. That makes it like 200% worse. At least normal harem protagonists usually stop at unintentional sexual harassment, not whatever eroge ‘protagonist’ don’t stop at (namely rape).

And counter stop is amazing with is pseudo game mechanics, and the like

      1. Well, just anecdote, but I learned Katakana (and indirectly hiragana) from comparing Pokemon’s name to the letters used in game :v (JP version)

After you recognize a i u e o and akasatanahamayarawan it gets easier to recognize that name input screen as a table \- -/

      1. I see, because Google Translate, yes I know it’s kinda bad, plus other ones said something like this “Feast of God of killing time vampire”, I just got the rough title. It seemed… alright. But I at least want to learn simple Japanese, but I’m afraid I can’t do that by myself just looking online. So just you wait. In a few years time, I’ll start to learn the basics!

              1. I know you translate web novels and aren’t in the business of teaching Japanese to the eager hopefuls, and I know this post is a year and a half old…

I’m a beginner at Japanese; I’ve learned my Hiragana and Katakana, I know maybe ~50 Kanji and more than 100 words and I’ve learned enough Japanese passively by watching anime to get the rough gist of what is being said for anime that utilise mostly basic Japanese (and sometimes intermediate Japanese). Anyway, I can’t really continue learning Kanji & Vocab without grammar.

And grammar is the bane of my existence.

No matter how many explanations I read on the difference between は and が, it makes just a little bit of sense to me what the difference is, based on Tae Kim’s explanation. I’ve read a number of times in several different places that Tae Kim’s Guide leaves out a lot of stuff and works best as a revision guide, rather than a comprehensive explanation; falling short as a beginner’s guide.

                Basically, my question is:

“What do you think would work best as a supplement (or complement) to Tae Kim’s Guide for someone struggling with wrapping their head around grammar fundamentals?”

I’d be very grateful for any advice, links, or whatever you’ve got.

                1. Though this isn’t Este’s recommendation, I thought I’d just put my thoughts out there too. If you’re looking to systematically learn the language, then go the route many people have done in school by looking at professional textbooks that offer explanations and examples. One decent one would be the Genki series, which is what most schools use in my area.

                2. Also not Este’s recommendation. I cannot really vouch for this site as I haven’t really used it much myself, but perhaps you may find useful as a free resource:

Also I personally feel like the process of learning vocabulary and kanji is involved enough that it’s worthwhile doing even without knowledge of grammar. Even with grammar you can still miss out of correct usage and grammar, and you refine your knowledge of the words with experience anyway. Commiting kanji to memory is a long process that I don’t think hurts to get an start early on.

                  1. Thanks!

I actually started using Imabi yesterday, and it seems to be very comprehensive. Moreso, even, than Genki. I aim to learn Kanji, vocab and grammar all at the same time, but I’m so weak with grammar to the point where I know maybe three basic grammar points.

  3. Not Japanese, but Daybreak on Hyperion features a male protagonist… with a vagina, after an arrogant Noble performs a rather… unorthodox familiar summoning ritual. Gender Bender should count if you’e including Alice Tale, which is a Transfer-type, not a reincarnation, though both would probably qualify as a metempsychosis, or a transmigration of a soul to another body. That said, in Daybreak’s case it’s just as likely to be a metamorphosis with a physical transmigration, considering Kaede kept her stuff from when she was a he (well, only what he had on him).

  4. Technically Hyperion and Alice Tales aren’t reincarnation’s theme (the MC don’t die and birth in other body)

But in practice they are, because new body and new life in a new world. This is almost like reincarnation

Although not contain the TG factor, the context is similar to Burikko (considered reincarnation-theme in some websites), or maybe is not explain the truth and the MC die in the first chapter (who know)

  5. There’s also sugar apple fairy tale, though it’s mostly romance and adventure of a sugar craftswoman.
And there’s also the Heartbreaker Queen from Okobore Hime, they began to translate the ln.

    1. I always figured that Will was the protagonist and Allison, the deuteragonist and namesake. Dunno about Lilia and Treize. I don’t know how I missed Slayers, it’s a classic. But we also have Dirty Pair. and if you’re going to mention MariMite (that Yurifest), then I call SutoPani! and SonoHana

  6. nah, fluffly-san… Just asking a question …
Is hiragana only consist of simple words? e.g. ne,shi, etc…
Not like if you want to write words like “understanding” in Japanese that the result is just 1symbol?

What I mean is that… There’s no combined words into 1symbol in hiragana? Well… katakana is pretty much the same…
I memorized the hira and kana symbols in a span of few days and started drilling afterwards even now…

I tried to learn kanji and downloaded the app at app store…
After taking a peek at 1st level lessons… I already spat blood… Too much…and many… Can you recommend me a source in learning kanji?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the inconvenience.

  7. This list is surprisingly short. Is it only my limited scope, or are there way too few (interesting) female characters in LNs/WNs (in general)? Most seem to be mere plot devices and when there’s a good woman MC, chances are it was a man, before [deus ex machina] gave him a vagina. Is there no audience for this, or why is that?

    1. There are female protagonist web novels for sure. Read a few. Simply not translated. Might make them next teaser. Theres this one about an office
lady who transfers to a world where kemonomimi people keep humans as pets (because theyre cute, obedient and can talk). Naturally an ikemen picks her up and adopts her. Not rly suited for this bbblog though.

    2. If you’ve never heard of the bechdel test, google it. It’s not unique to LNs/WNs… But you’re basically seeing a filtered list. A story has to be read, understood, and liked by the translator enough to share with everyone, and when fan translators are mostly male, they’ll be able to more easily identify with male MCs. Even if the MC was only male for part of the prologue.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. That’s pretty depressing.
Oh well, I think I’ll read through this list and maybe by then I’ll get tired of female protagonists as much as I am tired of male protagonists. Character tropes only go so far before they get boring >_<

  8. When you feel like editing it, do ya think Dragon’s Life and maybe Stone Burners (its like Worm except the heroine is a shy (killer?) dragon girl with a double digit body count) should get a mention?

  9. “somehow I can’t help but picture her in her previous life as the girl from Aho Girl”
THIS!! I knew I recognised her from somewhere!

“Somehow both horrific and incredibly cute”

  12. Hi again! I’m just here to let you know that I started translating a web-novel with a female protagonist. Using the author’s own words, it’s a “self-made otome game “. I think it’s a pretty nice blend of comedy and d’aww-inducing fluff. The title I came up with was “The Magic Academy’s Romantic Circumstances.”

(it’s actually my first translation effort ever and omg it takes absolutely forever! Hopefully it’s of okay quality. Props to everyone out there :D)

    1. it’s late and i don’t see an edit button for comments, but it’s actually “self-made otome game LOL”. I actually found it browsing through the otome game tag on syosetsu haha (same as Otoburi). Just so you know, it’s NOT a reincarnation plot!

        1. That would be nice! I’d probably be sending a bunch of “HELP ME” comments and flailing around, but that’d be nice!

i’ll add contact details later cause i’m busy rn

            1. quick reply before I have to head out:

Yes, I am! I just finished a semester of Japanese, and I’ll be taking more in the fall and spring. So I wouldn’t call myself a total beginner, but not that advanced.

      1. After scrolling up and seeing it already mentioned, I now feel like a blind piece of tofu.

Anyhow, thanks for the consideration. I thoroughly enjoyed Daybreak on Hyperion, and think it should get a bit more recognition than it has.

          1. Why hello there Jesus, fancy seeing you here.

That being said, I’d be curious as to what the base criteria of (most) series here is, aside from female leads. Personal enjoyment? A web translation? A light/web novel series? What exactly determines a light novel? It can be argued that there exist “English Light Novels”, stories written with common tropes and themes commonly existent within Japanese light novels.
That being said, that was not exactly the point of this very late follow-up comment.

I just felt it’d be interesting to note that, after seeing your previous comment on Worm, I decided to read it. I have since, in the past 2-3 days, read the first 15 arcs and effectively ruined my sleeping habits. Fun stuff.
I really need to thank you for making this list — I’ve taken the time out of the past month (*cough* sleep *cough*) to track down around three quarters of it, and I was not disappointed.

So thank you, and have a nice day.

            1. Of course, then I press home to return to the top, and I read the title underneath the page’s title.

I feel like walking into a wall. Oh look, there’s one now. I’d better get to that.

            2. And um, yes, generally translated stuff. Mostly translated Japanese stuff.

This isn’t really a list of ‘LNs’ or anything, and I’ve debated about the definition of ‘LN’ as both a Japanese and English word before… But in general, I’ve argued that as an English word, it should only refer to anime-esque Japanese works. Mostly because we already have a corresponding term for the Japanese term; young adult fiction.

            3. I know how you feel, at first i was doubting whether or not to read Worm, since at that time I was more into Asian novels rather than American N. but it blew my mind, Taylor’s life during the whole journey from beginning was astonishing. I lost a few hours of sleep but it was worthy.

              1. It took me a bit over one week to finish reading Worm. I regret nothing, aside from that fact that I couldn’t finish it in one solid week.

                That ending though…

      1. I know what you mean. But the author has gotten soooo much better and took in all the criticism that he/SHE recieved and learned from it and as I got to ch 20 I was completely hooked. 54 ch out noe

      2. The start it was kinda messy but it got soo much better, very fluid and honestly its a refreshing change to see a cool character like her. Plus i love the imps in the story ahh cute. But yer i think you should go and check it out again cause there has been an improvement in the style of writing.

      1. Well…. I find it weird that shes able to live another person’s life and act so normal. How can she not feel guilty….. I don’t no, I probably should of used another word to describe the novel. Its an emotional whirlpool sometimes I love her joyfulness and her idea of living life to the fullest…. but then I wonder how the actual frick does do ot so easily.

        1. Plus, she herself is a kind and somewhat simple person so I don’t know if she thinks it, but pretty much anybody else in her position would be maddened that the original Aika threw away her life, don’t you think?

The protagonist and her parents struggled with her illness for 16 years. She never got to go outside or experience anything, and not only that, she vaguely knew that she wouldn’t have a future. Her parents, after working hard to support her for 16 years finally lost her to death as well.

In comparison, this spoilt Aika girl, who’s surrounded by all these wonderful people (as protagonist-chan can attest to) just threw away her healthy body and life, probably without much thought to how her parents feel.

Yeah, there should be guilt about living somebody else’s life, but a more vicious character might feel outrage rather than guilt, and think of it as making the best of a life and relationships that the original ingrate threw away.

        2. And, I mean, she’s not like us. She’s been through a lot, emotionally.

Sure, it takes either shamelessness or emotional-simplicity to not think too much about warmth that should have been showered on somebody else, but after dealing with the emotions she did in her first life, perhaps it just isn’t a big deal as it would be for you or me.

I mean, she did spend almost her entire knowing life confined to a hospital. She didn’t know any friends, and the emotional pressure she had to deal with and the way in which her mind and values matured would obviously be different to a normal person.

              1. WAIT WAIT WAIT…….. U saying that there might be chance for this relationship to set sail….. listen im completly sain (i grew up with jesus and everything to do with the new testament), but if this happens then imma be shooting to the stars. imma have to rebuke now.

      1. Pea didn’t update her blog anymore since dec22… As much I’d recommend it, it’s still undecided that its hiatus or stopped completely. But if you want to hang in a cliff on the latest chapter, go ahead and be like me ( ;-;).

        STILL she’ll come back… Maybe.

  15. HEY boop boop…… cough cough.. i was wondering if you have ever read The Slave Life of a Half-Dragon Girl (半竜少女の奴隷ライフ)….. but anyhow it may peek ur intrest (probably most things peek ur intrest…… ammiii right? RIGHT!!!!!), i believe ill be selling adult prodoucts on the street once i finish uni… so this is my way of practicing by selling you a novel. I know you have been very busy lately but hopefull this web novel can lift ur spirits up a little….. maybe not since the prologue is fucked up… the main character is a unfortiunate girl….. very unfortunate.. but EVERYTHING BECOMES FULFFYPPOPPO AFTER THE PRLG. Since its completed you can enjoy it to its full extent and know that you have acomplished a story TAADAAA. sORRY FOR ALL THIS INFO….. also yes my motif is to get you to translate it…

  16. After reading too many wns from this list (as well as all these other isekai light/web novels ) I ended up getting swept along with the hype wave and wrote my own version I.e. web novel orz ( though it’s still in progress). Call me a sheep all you want. But anyhow, since it’s partially your fault for getting me into this whole genre (esp the female lead ones) I’ll swallow my embarrassment and share it,

As for the non tsundere translation: thanks for being an instrument of inspiration ^^ your translations and how you go above and beyond to even share images of food mentioned in each chapter (and make me hungry) are awesome O(≧∇≦)O
